Shining Stars of College Football: Week 12

Week 12 of the college football season saw some great performances on gridirons across the country and here are those shining stars listed below in no particular order.

RB Braelon Allen, Wisconsin

Allen rushed for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns as the #15-ranked Badgers beat Nebraska 35-28. Did you know? It was Allen’s seventh consecutive game with 100+yards rushing and he has scored seven rushing touchdowns in his last three games.

QB C.J. Stroud, Ohio State

Stroud was 32 of 35 passing for 432 yards and 6 touchdowns and zero INTs in the 4th-ranked Buckeyes 56-7 demolishing of #7 Michigan State. Did you know? It was Stroud’s fourth game of the season with 400+yards passing and in his last 2 games, he has passed for 11 touchdowns and zero INTs.

WR Chris Olave, Ohio State

Part of the “three-headed monster” receiving corp at Ohio State, Olave caught seven passes for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win over Michigan State. Did you know? Olave leads the team in receiving touchdowns (now at 13) and he has scored a receiving touchdown in 8 straight games.

WR Garrett Wilson, Ohio State

Wilson hauled in seven passes for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns in the destruction of the Spartans. Did you know? Wilson has gained 252 receiving yards and scored 5 touchdowns in his last two games.

WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ohio State

Smith-Njigba caught 10 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in the win over Michigan State. Did you know? He leads the Buckeyes in receiving yards (now at 1182) and has 484 yards receiving in his last three games. 

QB Bryce Young, Alabama

Young was 31 of 40 for 559 yards and 5 touchdowns in the #2 ranked Crimson Tide’s 42-35 win over Arkansas. He set the school record for passing yards in a game and his 559 passing yards were the second-most in an SEC game in the history of the conference. Did you know? Young has thrown 18 touchdown passes and zero INTs in his last five games.

QB Malik Cunningham, Louisville

Cunningham passed for 303 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 224 yards and two touchdowns in a 62-22 beat down of Duke on Thursday night. Did you know? Cunningham has passed for nine touchdowns and zero INTs in his last three games.

QB Frank Harris, UTSA

Harris led an 80-yard drive with less than two minutes left in the game and tossed the game-winning pass to Oscar Cardenas with three seconds left to beat UAB 34-31. The Roadrunners remain undefeated (11-0) and clinched the C-USA West Division title. Did you know? Harris has passed for 11 touchdowns and only 2 INTs in his last five games.

QB Brennan Armstrong, Virginia

Armstrong threw for 487 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 INT in a 48-38 loss to #18 Pitt. Did you know? Armstrong has passed for 13 touchdowns and only three INTs in his last four games.

QB Kenny Pickett, Pitt

Pickett passed for 340 yards and four touchdowns and 2 INTs in the win over Virginia. Did you know? Pickett has thrown three or more TD passes in each of his last four games.

QB Jaren Hall, BYU

Hall passed for 312 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-17 win over Georgia Southern. Did you know? Hall’s performance was his fourth game of the season passing for over 300 yards.

QB Devin Leary, N.C. State

Leary led the #20 Wolfpack to a 41-17 win over Syracuse. He passed for 303 yards and 2 touchdowns. Did you know? Leary has now passed for 300+yards in five consecutive games.

QB Justin Rogers, UNLV

Rogers passed for 305 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-20 loss to San Diego State. Did you know? Rogers had not played in UNLV’s previous four games.

QB Will Rogers, Mississippi State

Rogers was 28 of 34 passing for 391 yards and five touchdowns in the #25-ranked Bulldogs 55-10 win over Tennessee State. Did you know? It was the second consecutive game in which Rogers threw five or more TD passes.

QB Sam Hartman, #10 Wake Forest

Hartman passed for 312 yards and a touchdown and 1 INT in a 48-27 loss to Clemson. Did you know? Hartman has thrown for over 300 yards in 6 of his last 7 games.

QB K.J. Jefferson, #21 Arkansas

Jefferson was 22 of 30 passing for 326 yards and three touchdowns as the Razorbacks gave #2 Alabama all they could handle in the loss to the Crimson Tide. Did you know? Jefferson hasn’t thrown an INT in his last 5 games.

WR Jameson Williams, #2 Alabama

Willaims caught eight of Bryce Young’s passes for 190 yards and three TDs in the win over Arkansas. Did you know? Williams is a transfer from the Ohio State receiver room that also had Olave, Wilson, and Smith-Njigba. He leads the Crimson Tide in receiving yards (1218) and receiving touchdowns (13). In the win over Arkansas, it was his fourth straight game with over 100+yards receiving and he has scored 7 receiving touchdowns in his last three games.

WR Trelon Burks, #21 Arkansas

Burks caught eight passes for 179 yards and 2 touchdowns in the loss to Alabama. Did you know? It was the third game this season that Burks scored 2 receiving TDs in a game.

DB Marcus Jones, #24 Houston

Jones made 2 interceptions in the Cougars’ 31-13 win over Memphis. Did you know? It was Jones’ fourth consecutive game with at least one INT.

QB/RB Frank Gore, Southern Mississippi

Gore accounted for 3 touchdowns: 2 as a quarterback, 1 as a running back, in the Golden Eagles 35-19 win over La. Tech. Did you know? Gore is the team’s leading rusher (733 yards).

QB Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati

Ridder passed for 274 yards and three touchdowns, he added a rushing touchdown, and he caught a TD pass in the Bearcats 48-14 win over SMU. Cincinnati clinched a berth in the American Athletic Conference Championship Game vs Houston on December 4th. Did you know? Ridder has thrown only 6 INTs in 310 pass attempts and has completed over 70% of his passes in each of his last two games.

Oklahoma Sooners Defense

The Sooners racked up 7 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and forced 3 turnovers in a 28-21 win over Iowa State. Did you know? It was the second consecutive game in which the Sooners recorded 11 tackles for loss.

Clemson Tigers Defense

The Tigers recorded 7 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and forced 3 turnovers in the 48-27 win over #10 Wake Forest. Did you know? It was the second straight game of scoring 40+ points. Clemson hadn’t scored 40 points in a game since Week 2 vs South Carolina State (a 49-3 win).

QB Michael Pratt, Tulane

Pratt was 19 of 24 passing for 311 yards and three touchdowns in 45-14 win over South Florida. Did you know? The win snapped an 8-game losing streak.

Louisiana-Lafayette Defense

The Ragin’ Cajuns racked up 3 INTs, 7 sacks, and 8 tackles for loss in a 42-14 win over Liberty. Did you know? 2021 is the third consecutive season of at least 10-wins for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

QB Max Johnson, LSU

Johnson was 22 of 33 passing for 319 yards and 2 touchdowns, and he added a rushing touchdown in a 27-14 win over Louisiana-Monroe. Did you know? Johnson has passed for eight touchdowns and just 2 INTs in his last six games.

QB Bailey Zappe, Western Kentucky

Zappe passed for 470 yards and 6 touchdowns and 2 INTs in a 52-17 win over Florida Atlantic. Did you know? Zappe leads the country in TD passes (48) and it was his second consecutive game with over 450 yards passing.

QB Will Levis, Kentucky

Levis passed for 419 yards, 4 touchdown passes, and 1 INT in a 56-16 win over New Mexico State. Did you know? Levis has passed for 16 touchdowns and 6 INTs in his last seven games.

QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, UCLA

DTR was 16 of 22 passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns and 2 INTs. He also added two rushing touchdowns in a 62-33 win over arch-rival USC. Did you know? Thompson-Robinson now has 2245 yards passing, 18 touchdowns, and six INTs, and has 507 rushing yards and 9 TDs.
