Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Manny Diaz has named a starter at QB for the August 24th season opener against the Florida Gators.
Turning in a solid performance in spring practice and in fall camp, Redshirt freshman QB Jarran Williams has earned the starting job for the Canes. He beat out N’Kosi Perry and Ohio state transfer Tate Martell. Perry, a sophomore, threw for 1091 yards and 13 TD’s and 6 interceptions in 11 games last year. Perry and Martell will now compete to be the backup to Williams. Is it possible that Martell would transfer again? Or, does he stick around and learn the system and pay his dues?
With Williams now as the starter, it appears that Miami has solidified the quarterback position for the foreseeable future. With the help of quarterbacks coach Dan Enos, this should give the offense stability and create an identity.
Williams, from Georgia, was the 5th ranked pro-style QB according to http://247Sports.com in 2018, and was an Army All-American.
