Frank Gore Jr. Set an NCAA Record in Lending Tree Bowl

Southern Miss RB Frank Gore Jr. set an NCAA bowl record of 329 rushing yards and two TDs, while passing for another, in a 38-24 win over Rice in the Lending Tree Bowl in Mobile, AL on Saturday.

The victory was the Golden Eagles third in three tries in bowl game appearances played in Mobile.

Gore’s 329 rushing yards broke the previous bowl record of 317 yard set by Appalachian State’s Camerun Peoples in 2020. He also set a new school rushing record, breaking the previous record of 304 by Sam DeJarnette that stood since 1982.

He had TD runs of 64-yards and 55-yards. In addition, he threw an 18-yard scoring pass. He also took off on a 59-yard scamper that help set up the go-ahead touchdown.

He proved that he is one of the most versatile running backs in the country.

For the season, Gore rushed for 1382 yards and nine touchdowns, and averaged 6-yards per carry.

Gore has rushed for 2891 yards and 16 touchdowns in his college career.

The Nasty Bunch Rides Again

The Golden Eagles were ranked as one of the best in the country in tackles for loss and sacks. They continued that trend as they racked up six tackles for loss and five sacks vs the Owls.

Daylen Gill was the defensive star for the Golden Eagles, as he racked up 11 tackles, three tackles for loss and 3 sacks. Jay Stanley added an interception. It was his fifth INT of the season.

Southern Miss finished the season at 7-6, winning their first bowl game since 2016. They finished the 2022 season on a two-game winning streak. The Golden Eagles now carry some very important momentum into the upcoming recruiting cycle and into the 2023 season.
